Food Handlers Classes

Classes held @ Wetzel Tyler Health Dept the 1st Thursday of every month.

Food Handlers Classes are for those working with foods and food service.  The Health Department requires all food service workers to have a current food handlers card, issued by the Health Department.

This course is required for all Wetzel and Tyler County employees that handle food and/or wash dishes.  The purpose of this course is to reduce food borne illness and teach sanitary food practices.  The course covers proper food handling practices that are required under the 2013 FDA Food Code.  Employees must obtain a valid food service worker card within thirty (30) days of hire.  A copy of this card must be kept at the place of employment.  Employees without a current card after thirty (30) days shall be taken off of the schedule until a current card is issued.

Person in Charge (PIC) trainings

Person in Charge Trainings provide information necessary for all designated PIC's as well as managers, owners and operators of resturaunts an other facilities within Wetzel and Tyler County.  This training will cover the 2013 FDA Food Code.  Food service facilities are required to have a Person In Chage (PIC) at all times the establishment is open.

Online Food Handler Programs

The Wetzel-Tyler County Health Department has partnered with www.statefoodsafety.com to offer online food service workers classes for purchase.  Individuals, whose schedule does not allow them to attend in person classes should participate in this program as an alternative (additional fees apply).
